"The Odd Couple" is coming to Miami this November

The Miami Stage Company is performing this beloved play of Neil Simon at the Alper JCC. Opening night is November 10 followed by performances through November 21, 2004.

"The Odd Couple" premiered on Broadway in 1965 at the Plymouth Theatre in New York City and earned the Tony Award for best play. It tells the story of the slovenly Oscar Madison and the "neat-nick" Felix Unger and their interaction during the crisis of Felix’ split from his wife. Simon's inspiration for the play was his brother, Danny, who was divorced and rooming with a divorced friend, to cut expenses and save for alimony. The roommates began to get on each other's nerves, and served as the inspiration for the plot. In 1968, the play was made into a movie, followed by the TV Show that began in the fall of 1970.

"The Odd Couple" opens with a group of male friends playing their regular weekly game of poker. This week, they're meeting at the apartment of Oscar Madison, a divorcee who freely admits to being a slob: "I leave a mess when I read a book." Late to arrive is Felix Unger, a stickler for detail who would try the patience of a saint, and who has unfortunately just become separated from his wife. As life would have it, the slob and the fuss-budget decide to room together -- with hilarious results! Within days, Felix's obsessive habits start taking their toll on Oscar and his friends. The only remedy Oscar can think of (a date with pair of spirited sisters from England) disastrously backfires, and the two men are forced to agree on one thing -- even the best of friends sometimes make the worst of roommates.

Debra Ginsberg of Coral Gables, a seasoned director and actor will direct the strong cast, which has been assembled for this production. Bill Altfield as "Felix" and John Cosomano as "Oscar" will amuse the entire audience with their own unique characterizations. A phenomenal supporting cast has been assembled comprising of Craig Dearr as "Murray", Butch Falgiatore as "Roy," Luis Madera as "Speed" and Mitch Abrams as "Vinnie." Also, the effervescent "The Pigeon Sisters" are portrayed wonderfully by Angela Ardolino and Treger Strasberg. All will have a fun and thoroughly enjoyable night.

This is comedic theater at its best!! You won't want to miss the Miami Stage Company's production of "The Odd Couple."

Show times are 8 PM on November 11, 13,18, 20 and 2pm on November 14 and 21 at the Alper JCC Theater, 11155 SW 112th Ave.
